THIS COURSE REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF 6 STUDENTS!

COURSE DESCRIPTION

AP Environmental Science is the synthesis of the sciences Biology, Ecology, Geology, Hydrology, Climatology, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Soil Science for the purpose of explaining how life on Earth is sustained.  Broad themes pertaining to the physical, chemical, and biological components of the environment are explored (i.e., air and water quality, conservation ecology, terrestrial ecosystems, aquatic ecosystems, landscape ecology, environmental health and toxicology, environmental laws and regulations, environmental geology, and environmental chemistry).  This course explores our understanding of the interrelationships of the natural world while analyzing natural and human-made environmental problems that affect those relationships and examining solutions for resolving or preventing the problems we deal with today through critical thinking activities and project-based assignments.

Students are expected to keep up with the weekly reading assignments and project/laboratory report assignments. In addition, students must be prepared to conduct outdoor activities during required labs and fieldwork around the Vantage Point area or in nearby locations.  Topics discussed in class will be supplemented with films and short video segments, current events in today’s news, guest speakers, and field trips.
