THIS COURSE REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF 6 STUDENTS!
The National Ocean Science Bowl is an academic competition for high school student teams that focuses on environmental and earth science topics revolving around ocean science. Our oceans provide numerous ecosystem services for the planet as well as economic and resource stability for humans. Participating in the NOSB program creates opportunities for our future leaders to learn about a variety of ocean issues, technology and careers in marine sciences.
This event is structured in a quiz bowl format where small student teams gather regionally in early February to earn the chance to advance to the national event, held mid-April of the school year. To adequately prepare for Georgia’s event, interested students spend time studying on their own and as a team throughout the year. Participation in this program looks good on college and scholarship applications, provides a great extension to students’ science education, exposes students to career paths, and exercises critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
